THE DAVE
DUNNET STORY.
Dave Dunnet has been a fixture in the Oak Bay High School music program for more than a half century. Starting as a student at Oak Bay in the late 1950’s he moved on to earn certificates and degrees at the University of Washington, Northwestern University in Chicago, and Berklee College in Boston. Dave had a 28 year career as Band Director at Oak Bay, and has contributed in many ways to Oak Bay High as a student and teacher. He is the only member of both the Oak Bay High School Sports Hall of Fame and The Oak Bay Fine Arts Distinguished Alumni celebrating his contribution to all facets of student life at Oak Bay.
Dave was also a Sessional Instructor, Lecturer, Teacher in Residence and Senior Instructor at the University of Victoria and following retirement from the schools, he moved to full time Faculty at UVic. Dave was awarded an Emeritus title on his retirement from UVic.
Dave’s stature as a clinician, adjudicator and presenter both in Canada and the United States is unparalleled. He and his musicians have performed in sixteen European and Asian countries and a number of his students have gone on to professional careers and acclaim in music and in education around the world.
Today Dave continues to be a friend and contributor to Oak Bay High School. For all that Dave has meant to Oak Bay, the school is honoured he has allowed his name to be given to our wonderful new community theatre.
